04.07.2024, Aichach / Schloss Blumenthal: This summer semester, our DTC Architecture studio (M.Sc. Arch Students) developed “modular timber construction” designs for the ecological community Schloss Blumenthal, in the Aichach district. Our new technology transfer center “TTZ Digital Planning and Construction” will also soon be starting there.
Schloss Blumenthal is a listed ensemble near Aichach. A socially and ecologically oriented community of 47 adults and 30 children lives and works there. They run various businesses on site: a guest house, hotel, farm shop, goat farming, solidarity farming, cheese dairy and seminar rooms.
Additional residential, office and hotel space was to be integrated into an existing listed building. The old roof was a unique wide-span steel truss construction from the 1950s, which unfortunately has to be replaced due to its condition. Instead, the students developed timber truss structures that “carry on” the “legacy” of the listed building and enable the integration of promising new hardwood products and research topics. Since their modern seminar rooms were recently damaged by flooding, the final presentations took place in the community’s church.
Many thanks to the entire Schloss Blumenthal community for the great cooperation!
