02.09.2026, Weimar: The NEW bauhaus Festival in Weimar was a two-day innovation event that took place on September 2 and 3, 2026. It brought together experts from architecture, real estate, science, tech, and craft to debate and shape the future of sustainable, modular, and digital building.

Key Focus Areas of the event were:

• New Tech & AI: Examining how robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence change design and construction.

• Modern Housing: Discussing modular and serial construction to solve housing shortages.

• Sustainability: Exploring eco-friendly materials and circular economies.

• Culture and Art: Integrating creative and cultural perspectives alongside high-profile speakers like digital expert Sascha Lobo

The DTC team participated in the event, presenting our latests robot-assembled low-grade wood structure as a physical demonstrator and in a presentation.

At the TTZ for Digital Design and Construction, we have developed an innovative robotic timber processing system. Unlike the processing systems currently on the market, this robot—equipped with a novel gripper—is capable of processing smaller timber components as well. This capability is particularly well-suited for construction using curved hardwood, as well as recycled and reused elements. Furthermore, thanks to this specialized gripper, the robot can not only process components but also join them—assembling them, for instance, into a prefabricated lightweight wall or a ceiling element.

For these lightweight elements, we also employ a new AI-driven process in which a computer program geometrically arranges short timber pieces of varying lengths so that no offcuts are produced. The resulting triangulation, featuring reciprocal nodes, is structurally efficient, eliminating the need for conventional bracing sheathing.
